The first version of this song was written in 1982. I suggested to Alex that we should resurrect it with The Borderers and make it into a world music track incorporating the beats and chants that really inspire us.

We also realised that music was one of the few things that brings people of the world together.

Music is out universal language, and the Maori Haka (haka means dance) used in this song says, "What is the greatest purpose of all? It is unity. So lets us sing to the world in unity".

verse 1
We dance to a universal beat
(world's got the rhythm, world's got the rhythm)
It's the language that we all can speak
(world's got the rhythm, world's got the rhythm)

sub chorus
Ooh, da, da, da
Ooh, da, da, da

chorus
It's tribal, la, la, la, la
It's tribal, la, la, la, la

verse 2
It's the music that brings us together
(world's got the rhythm, world's got the rhythm)
The beat can cross any border
(world's got the rhythm, world's got the rhythm)

sub chorus

chorus

chant

Ooh bambinos
Ooh mes amigos
I wanna hear us say
Hey! hey! hey!
