| Our ex-manager Willie McInnes wrote a film script about
families from Ireland, Scotland and England coming out to Australia
in the sixties to find work in the steel mills because they had lost
their jobs in Britain.
After six months some of the
19 year old guys found themselves in Vietnam. We were inspired by
the title and the fact that no matter how far away from you friends
and family you never forget about them or where you're from
It was written on a piano which
always inspires and different type of song and chord structure.
verse 1
Packed our dreams into a suitcase
No more choices, we're out of luck
They say the future's in this new place
And they promise there'll be work
chorus
But I will love you and leave you
But I won't forget, believe me
When we're in the Land of Promise
I will still be there for you (x2)
verse
2
Sail away with
mixed emotions
A lot of memories left behind
We're going miles across the ocean
So uncertain of what we'll find
chorus
But I have loved you and left you, but I won't forget believe
me
When I'm in the Land of Promise I will still be there for you
verse
3
We'd only been there for a short time
When he was called up; a 'son of war!'
They sent him off to fight in Vietnam
In a war he knew nothing of
chorus
Now he has loved me and left me
But I won't forget, believe me
Though I'm in the Land of Promise, I will still be there for you
chorus
You have loved me and left me
But I won't forget, believe me
When you're back in the Land of Promise
I will still be there for you |
